With little more than a week to go until the transfer window opens once again the rumours remain a little quiet but one story that keeps doing the rounds links Spurs with a move for PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot.
The 19 year old is highly thought of by his current employers and as such, any transfer is likely to be on a temporary basis until the end of the present campaign. Rabiot is a central defensive midfielder – one position where some might say we don’t need any reinforcements. Alternatively, even though it’s a loan deal could it lead to the departure of Mousa Dembele – another rumour that’s gathered in intensity over recent weeks?
I like the idea of Rabiot and Mason with Bentaleb dropping to the bench/Cup games, but I’m worried about Dembele and Paulinho not playing…
I actually prefer bentaleb to mason at the moment. Depending on how attacking rabiot is. Bentaleb has been great breaking up the defense. Mason has started to be less effective as of recent weeks. Also wouldn’t mind seeing why we spent 4mil on stambouli! Has been quite impressive in cameos!
What is the point on loaning this guy? He just signed a contract to keep him at PSG till 2019. So if we are to buy him, it would cost upward of £20M for a 19 year old? Unless we sign him permanently then this is a pointless acquisition. I’d rather have Bentaleb and Mason starting because I know they will still be here next year. Thanks, but no thanks
The one area we have cover for is defensive central midfield. Mason, Bentelab, Dembele, Capoue, Stambouli can all play there. unless he is better than all those what`s the point? We do need to move people on though, Naughton, Chicires and Adeybayor for sure. I am not sure major squad surgery is required. We need to know our strongest 11 and stick to it as much as possible. I would like to see Fabian Delph along side Eriksen, Fazio is improving, a bit slow though, the partnership with Vertonghen should be kept, Two others that we have tried for previously – Memphis Depay from PSV and Benteke from Villa would propel us into the top 4. My team from Jan onwards would be – Lloris, Yedelin, Davies, Fazio, Vertongehen, Dembele, Eriksen and Delph in midfield and Depay, Lamela and Benteke/Kane up front. pretty strong

Out – Kaboul, Naughton, chiriches, ekotto, Dembele, and maybe Lennon/ade.
IMO – I think Dembele is a far better player than Paulinhio, Looks like Schneiderlin is going to Arse, but I don’t think we need him. Kaboul leaving is a bit of a stretch since he is captain (should be Vertonghen) Anyway – Delph, Depay and Benteke will make us top 4!!
Benteke would be ideal. I agree Dembele is better than Paulinho, but Dembele leaving seems more likely.
Not sure about Delph if I’m honest, seems s bit average to me. Think we need a top level player who clearly stands above our crop!
I could potentially see the logic in this. It could be that we are in for Schneiderlin in the summer and want someone similar to tide us over until then.
There’s every possibility that Dembele and Paulinho will be moved on. And I wouldn’t be surprised if Capoue was also.
There will also come a time where Mason and Bentaleb will need to be rested or taken out of the first team to be protected and I reckon Rabiot would sit nicely in there. Also neither Mason and Bentaleb are truly defensive minded and offer little protection in front of the back four.
Also Bentaleb will be away at the AFCON throughout January and Mason’s injury record could leave us short if we do indeed offload a few midfielders.
Seems silly to get another midfielder, but there’s my logic to it. And it would freshen up the squad with some real quality for that final part of the season.

Well. He clearly wants out, with lack of game time. Could be a nice loan to make the move permanent. Could seriously turn in to a huge star for us!!! Any other rumors getting stronger?
