As time goes by Dele Alli looks an ever-shrewder signing. Recently nominated as the Football League Young Player of the Year alongside two players from the Championship, Alli scored his 15th goal of the season this week.

As MK Dons beat Fleetwood 3-0, Alli scored this half-volleyed screamer from the edge of the area.

His 15 goals have come in 32 league games. It’s a stunning effort from a 19-year old midfielder, especially considering that he is a genuine central midfielder who scores his goals from deep rather than a more advanced position behind the striker.

Can he force his way into Mauricio Pochettino’s squad next season? Why not. He may only be scoring goals in League One but Ryan Mason was playing in that division with Swindon last season.

With the likes of Etienne Capoue, Mousa Demeble, Paulinho and Benjamin Stambouli likely to leave, there are places to be filled. Tom Carroll is one who might get a chance and Alli is another.

One thing Tottenham really lack right now is goals from the two central midfield positions. Paulinho was meant to be the man to provide them, while Mason’s finishing very often demonstrates why he no longer plays as a forward.

It might be a big step up for Alli but Pochettino has proved that he will give chances to relatively untried players. It’s going to be a big pre-season for this teenager.
