Paulinho’s absence from Tottenham’s matchday squad to face Southampton was met by confusion and criticism on social media.
The Brazilian had been one of Spurs’ top performers at Newcastle last weekend, awarded the Man Of The Match trophy by Sky Sports.
But the confusion was quickly brought to an end when it was revealed Paulunho’s wife was due to give birth. Here’s how Twitter reacted…
Paulinho's wife giving birth, supposedly. I guess we know where his priorities lay. #NotGoodEnough #GetOutOfMyClub

Paulinho has his best ever game for us & his wife goes into labour causing him to miss the next one.
Bit selfish imo.

#thfc Ruddy inconvenient of Paulinho's wife to go into labour just as he was finding form. If he leaves in the summer, she'll be to blame.

Good to see that at least Paulinho can score in the bedroom !! lol

Paulinho's wife's labour must have been induced by a delayed reaction to the excitement of him being awarded MotM. #COYS

So rude. Its not like paulinho forced his wife to do so. Family comes first. You are the selfish ones.
horrible attitude towards paulino, you all should be ashamed of yourselfs
Paulinho did NOT have a great game against a seriously depleted bare bones Newcastle team. He made no impact at all. This was a window show to try and get rid for some kind of fee. This would be the only opportunity to start him as Newcastle are hurting that bad right now. MOTM from sky??? HAHAHAH well a lot of guys may as well dust off the boots then and make a comeback. What a joke he was terrible as always. What did he do in that game?? He was average at best which is way better than his usual pathetic, slow, chicken, lazy outing. Nothing against him personally I hope he had a healthy baby.
One of the worst buys ever. AGAIN we find these over hyped losers.
