Sky Italia have reported that Vlad Chiriches is set to leave Spurs to join Fiorentina within the next 48 hours.

The Romanian will join the Serie A club on a season long loan for a fee of €1m, with the option of making the deal permanent for a further €5m.

Chiriches will become the second central defender to leave Tottenham this summer following Younes Kaboul’s transfer to Sunderland.

Scrutiny will then surely turn to Federico Fazio who endured a fairly disastrous debut season at the club.

Spurs bought the Argentine for £8m last August but Fazio failed to cement his place in the team and now looks even further down the pecking order following the signings of Kevin Wimmer and Toby Alderweireld.

At 28 years old, now could be time to sell Fazio while he still retains some of his value and his qualities are fresh in the memories of La Liga clubs. Would you cash in on him now?

  1. Probably, although a lot depends on whether we sign a defensive midfielder, Dier could fill this role otherwise which would mean keeping Fazio. Plus he’s on the plane to Denver suggesting he’s in Poch’s plans!

  2. Ridiculous comments about Fazio had a gd season for his first in the premier, evey player needs time to settle. Toby will be our Defensive Midfielder this year not centre back. Played there many times with Southampton.

  3. Certainly keeping Fazio gives us positive defensive options. With Alderweireld and possibly Dier both able to control the def/mid areas, this would give us a powerful defense without losing any offensive prowess as both players have excellent abilities going forward. Fazio needed to have last season as a learning curve. This season will mark the man. He now knows what to expect. He will approach his second season with confidence and a better understanding of what’s called for. Fazio needs to know he can get the better of Benteke. The tempers there, just needs the temperament.
