Tottenham left it late at the Stadium of Light, winning it through a Ryan Mason goal in the 82nd minute.
Sunderland created more chances in the first half but Spurs turned it on creatively towards the end of the game. A wonderful Ryan Mason goal – the result of 15 passes – was enough to take all three points back to north London.
Andros Townsend and Erik Lamela were especially impressive as substitutes. Eric Dier won the Man of the Match award and Mason deserved his goal.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to the goal and the result…

Standard PL away performance for us. Home side sat back and hit us on the break, our fitness showed and opened them up with our creativity.

#thfc There's the much-needed first win, courtesy of another clean sheet and a fine team goal. Townsend & Lamela made good impacts as subs.
