The summer signing of Toby Alderweireld has been key to the improvement of the Spurs defence and his stats this season reveal just what a calming influence he’s been.

In particular it is noticeable that the Belgian has made very few fouls. This was an area in which Ledley King was rightly praised and Alderweireld is following in his footsteps with just three fouls committed in 17 games, far less than some of his fellow defenders on this list.
It all points to the calmness that Alderweireld has brought to the Tottenham back four, which has greatly contributed to the side conceding less goals than any other Premier League team this season.
