After a tense last ten minutes, Tottenham Hotspur held on to secure a 1-0 against Watford at White Hart Lane, leapfrogging Manchester City into second place in the Premier League.
Spurs were utterly dominant from the first kick, with Ben Davies and Kieran Trippier impressing most in the first half.
Fittingly, it was Kieran Trippier who broke the deadlock for the hosts with his first Tottenham goal. The right back got on the end of a superb cross by substitute Dele Alli to tap in from close range.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to Spurs going second in the league.
FT. Finally. Brilliant performance even if the scoreline doesn't reflect that. Full backs excellent. Another clean sheet, into 2nd we go!

#Spurs 2nd in the Premier League. Bigger shock, Leicester are the team above them! 25 shots on target today, Trippier only one that counts

The top two of the Premier League this evening are Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur. This season has gone wrong in the best way.

Tottenham Hotspur are now second in the Premier League, with the best goal difference and the fewest goals conceded.

Couldn't care less what the score was today, all I wanted was a win to get to second place and that's exactly what we got. UPP THE SPUUURS!

That was another strong performance; clean sheet (Wimmer was great) & we should have scored a few more (might have had a pen too). #COYS

Wimmer looking very, very assured. No goals conceded in 195 mins of PL football. Second most passes (66) & best accuracy (90.9%) v Watford.

Nothing in football has taught me how to deal with Tottenham being good
