Federico Fazio has been linked with a move to Espanyol in recent weeks and according reports from Spain a loan deal could be imminent.

We’re sure that this news will come as a disappointment to many Spurs fans, who like us would have been hoping to have seen the Argentine depart on a permanent basis this summer. Unfortunately, Sport claim that Tottenham’s valuation of Fazio is more than Espanyol are willing to pay.

The good news is that Espanyol will instead pay a loan fee for Fazio, along with his full salary. They will have the option to buy the central defender at the end of the season.

When Fazio went on loan to Sevilla last season it was hoped that his old club would make it a permanent move, but the player struggled to make an impact after a disastrous first game in which he was sent off after 24 minutes.

The danger of letting Fazio go out on loan to Espanyol is that they too could decide to reject the chance to buy him. Here’s hoping that we won’t have to write a similar article to this, next summer.

  1. Why was the lad bought in the first place ? He obviously wasn’t the type of player to fit into our way of playing
