Reports claim that Clinton Njie has turned down the chance to move to Marseille on loan, as Spurs look to sign Georges-Kevin Nkoudou from the French club.

Njie is said to be reluctant to return to France and wants to prove himself at White Hart Lane, after an injury-hit debut season.

Yet with Nkoudou likely to arrive regardless of whether Njie makes the move to Marseille, the Cameroon international faces a real struggle to find opportunities at Tottenham. Mauricio Pochettino can currently choose between the likes of Dele Alli, Nacer Chadli, Christian Eriksen, Erik Lamela, Joshua Onomah, Alex Pritchard, Heung-Min Son in the wide positions where Njie can operate.

Up front, it looks like it will be equally difficult for Njie to get a game, with Harry Kane, Vincent Janssen and even Son ahead of him in the pecking order. This isn’t even accounting for the chances of youngsters such as Marcus Edwards, Kazaiah Sterling and Shayon Harrison, who will all be hoping to make the step up to the big time.

It’s no one’s fault, but it really looks like the time for Njie and Spurs to go their separate ways. The club no doubt hoped that they could mould the raw talent of Njie into a useful player, but injuries prevented the player from being able to show what he was capable of. Alex Pritchard suffered the same fate and is another who could leave this summer.

A loan move to a cash-strapped Marseille – who might not be able to afford to buy him next summer – might not be the best option for Njie, but a move to pastures new will surely be the best solution for all parties.

  1. Useless N’Jie cannot beat defenders,cross,score @ 12-14 Million Crazy Money;even before injury!
We have better players in our under 21 & 2nd Teams…..OUT….Prefer SELL or Loan Option To Buy…A.S.A.P

  2. I say sell Chadli to OM first while he still has value. Loan Onomah to OM also as he really has the most to lose from the N’Koudou purchase. Having him on the left and N’Jie on the right with Janssen as striker would be a great “3” in a 4-3-3, and would be a true alternative to try when the ol’ Spurs pass-until-you-drop routine wears thin.

  3. I don’t get this useless Njie opinion that some people have,Lamela was woeful for the two season before last, Njie has everything needed to succeed pace, ability and a good eye for goal, you have to
Persist with him he’s still young and give him at least half a season more when fully fit and acclimatised to playing in the EPL.

  4. If it isnt felt that he will get sufficient gametime this season, then i think we should be pitching him to bournemouth, who are trying their hardest to play our style of football and defensively at least arent doing an overly bad job. Should get starts and its a great opportunity to show what he can do aswell as adapting to our system and the prem elsewhere for a season. He cant have a worse season than this one in terms of sell on. Too hard to judge him on this season.

  5. So I hear that N’Jie will be loaned to Marseille with a clause to buy him for Euros. 7M.Now that would be a loss of more than 50% in less than a year.Pathetic.I have been a big critic of Daniel Levy not releasing funds but now I back him.How can one make such a mistake and lose more than 50% on an investment?Do MP and Mitchell know what they are doing? I doubt it.
