Reports from France claim that a deal for Nabil Bentaleb to join Schalke has been agreed.

L’Equipe have reported that Bentaleb will join Schalke on a season-long loan with an option to buy for just over £17m, which will become obligatory if certain criteria are met.

The French paper claims that Bentaleb agreed to the personal details of the transfer, yesterday evening.

Meanwhile, The Mirror have thrown doubts on these reports, as they claim that Bentaleb will be offered as a makeweight in an attempt to sign Moussa Sissoko from Newcastle.

As Newcastle rate Sissoko at £30m and Bentaleb may not be keen to drop down to the Championship, it’s hard to take this story seriously. After the never-ending Georges-Kevin Nkoudou/Clinton Njie saga this summer, you’d think the club would want to avoid a similar transfer deal.

In contrast, the Schalke move seems pretty straightforward and we will soon find out if L’Equipe’s claims have any validity.
