Twitter reacts as Spurs beaten by Monaco in Champions League opener

Two first half goals saw Monaco leave London with a 2-1 win in Tottenham’s Champions League opener at Wembley.

Bernardo Silva broke the deadlock with a well-placed finish after a quick counter-attack by the visitors before Thomas Lemar doubled Monaco’s lead with a powerful close range effort.

Toby Alderweireld thumped in a header just before half time to get Spurs back in it, but it wasn’t enough as the hosts fell short in front of a record 85,011 crowd.

Spurs mostly poor, but Monaco defended very well. Not in Europa League any more lads, need to step it up several notches in Moscow.

Gutted is an understatement. Sluggish start, avoidable chances being given away, good period for maybe only 10/15 mins, but that's it.
