Tottenham are far from being a one-man team these days, but if there’s one player we perhaps can’t afford to be a long-term casualty it’s Toby Alderweireld.

The central defender has been superb since joining the club from Atletico Madrid and the chief reason that our defence has become so miserly.

So the sight of him being stretchered off against West Brom and obviously in some pain, was a worrying one. In his post-match press conference, Mauricio Pochettino was unable to offer any insight into how bad the injury might be, leaving fans to speculate and fear the worst.

Yet a ray of hope has emerged via the medium of Jan Vertonghen’s Instagram account. Some of the players have been using their Sunday to have a Call Of Duty day and Alderweireld was photographed playing the game by Vertonghen.

As you’ll see from the image below, our hero is not in a wheelchair, nor are there any crutches, knee braces or plaster casts visible. We don’t doubt that Alderweireld might miss a few games, but from this picture it doesn’t look as if he’s likely to be out for months.

  1. If this is true & Toby is not seriously injured every Spurs supporter will be over the moon. HE is our best defender and, with Jan, half of the meanest defense in the league! COYS
