There was more misinformation from The Sun today, with the paper reporting that Spurs are battling Chelsea for the Napoli midfielder Amadou Diawara.

Tottenham were linked with the youngster earlier this year when he was at Bologna, only for Diawara to join Napoli for around £13m shortly before the close of the summer transfer window.

Diawara has been a hit at his new club, attracting the interest of Chelsea. The Sun claims that the West Londoners will have to pay £40m for the 19-year old, as Spurs have already had a bid of £34m rejected.

The chances of Tottenham having bid that amount of money for a player that they could have bought for £13m in the summer, seem remote. This is especially true considering that the club bought another defensive midfielder in Victor Wanyama during the close season.

What’s likely is that while Spurs were interested in Diawara, that interest ended when Wanyama was recruited. At £40m, he now seems out of Spurs’ price range and it’s extremely unlikely to arrive at White Hart Lane in the near future.
