Tottenham fell to another European defeat as Belgian side Gent ran out 2-0 winners in the first leg of the sides’ Europa League clash.
Spurs will need to hugely improve if they are to turn this one around at Wembley in the second leg.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side failed to live up to expectations in a drab, goalless first half. They improved slightly after the break but Gent opened the scoring and Tottenham failed to reply.
Spurs have now scored just once in their last four matches in all competitions. Here’s how Twitter reacted to the performance and result.
Poch got it wrong at Anfield but there was plenty of praise before KO for a strong line up here. Players cross the line and have been woeful

1-0 isn’t a terrible result (certainly not celebrating it either). The biggest worry is those outside the first XI never show enough.

Honestly that was an embarrassing performance. No heart from the players and they looked tired.

Didn't see that coming. 2nd successive poor performance. The better side Gent deservedly won. Lacklustre sloppy and unconvincing Spurs!

Total shambles for the second time in 6 days. Yay. #COYS

Our performances have declined so much since Vertonghen and Rose got injured. We only have a good first XI, not a good squad. Harsh truth.

They wanted it more. Big time. Surely the last time we see Sissoko start a Spurs game.

Ugggggly performance. Dembele's worst match in a long time but he wasn't close to the worst. Sissoko was 'will he get another chance?' bad.

at least we can go out of europe so we can focus on getting into europe so we can go out of europe so we can focus on getting into eur

These results at the moment are our own doing. We're not turning up.

What’s happened to the pressing we heard so much about last year??
They had so much time on the ball with us no desire or energy levels in competing.
Alli is not any good on the left and Sissoko honestly makes me want to break my screen. Worst buy I can remember for a long time and considering what he cost the absolute worst.
Dier is too slow in everything he does walker looks clumsy and Davies not good enough. The bench is then poor full stop.
I am actually concerned and until we play with the energies Pochettino is known for and at a better intensity we will struggle!!
Rant over Poch I hope you’re reading this……surely though you see what we do?!!
I agree with everything that is said above from Matt. When we lose a few key players the ones coming in are not good enough. Sissoko is a joke, I can’t believe pochettino bought him and I don’t think he sanctioned it. Alderweireld is not the same player without vertonghen, Davies can’t replace rose, don’t know where to play dier he has gone back a lot. Kane is starved of any decent service
Don’t think janssen will ever make it at spurs tries hard like soldado did. Wimmer not at the races at all. We need a quality playmaker in midfield Eriksen is ok but not consistent enough. Top 4 could be a struggle.
Sissoko is the worst player I’ve seen in a spurs shirt.I haven’t seen playing football since he joined us.He’s clown. To tell the truth our scouting system isn’t good enough. We have to buy lucas perez on a season long-loan with an option.Yet he’s a better cover than shit janssen. He’s unhappy at arsenal for not given much game time.So we have to take advantage of that IMO.
Absolute Rubbish – no desire no passion. The end has come and one final attempt start all over 2017/18 .
Nothing ever changes!! Same old Spurs
This was ment to be our best team they were crap.If we let in a goal in the return we will then have to score 3 to get through i dont think we could do it.Should a miracle occur and we do win then what we get drawn against a stronger team with probably thousands of miles of travel. On to sunday we will most likely play a whole 2nd eleven and lose to fulham.I think our manager will have a lot to answer for come monday morning.
