When Ben Davies arrived from Swansea City in the summer of 2014, many expected him to become Tottenham’s first choice left-back.

But the staggering improvement of Danny Rose has somewhat hindered Davies’ progress. The Welshman has had to settle for a back-up role, but has recently enjoyed a run in the first team due to Rose’s knee injury.

While he lacks the attacking intent and pure tenacity of Rose, Davies has gradually found his feet in the team and impressed in the 3-2 win over Everton at White Hart Lane last weekend.

And now The Sun reports Davies is set to be rewarded with a new four-year contract worth £12 million.

Davies would become the latest of a string of Spurs players to sign new deals this season, including three other defenders — Kyle Walker, Eric Dier and Jan Vertonghen. Toby Alderweireld is also expected to renew soon.

Many believe Davies doesn’t have the sufficient quality to flourish at Tottenham in the long term, but look at what Pochettino did with Rose. Perhaps Davies simply needs more time to develop.
