When the latest England squad was announced on Thursday afternoon, Tottenham fans were perplexed to see former midfielder Jake Livermore among the 23 players called up.

Harry Winks earned a call-up to the u21s squad, but many believe the 21-year-old has done enough lately to be considered for the senior team — especially when Gareth Southgate is handing out call-ups to the likes of Livermore.

Winks was excellent in Spurs’ FA Cup quarter-final victory over Millwall last weekend. The u21s is probably the right place for the midfielder’s current development, but there is an argument that Winks should become the latest in a long line of promising youngsters to play for England while being managed by Mauricio Pochettino.

What do you think? Should Winks be in the senior team? Or is his u21s call-up the right decision for now?

  1. He should stay in the u21 squad for now. England has a problem when it comes to promoting young players too early and they never end up fulfilling their potential because they end up growing with habitual losers who accept defeat too easily.
