Ross Barkley has emerged as Tottenham’s number one summer transfer target, according to The Telegraph.

There has been talk about Barkley potentially moving to Spurs for a while, but many believe the Everton midfielder lacks the sufficient quality to play for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

In his article about Tottenham cooling their interest in Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha, Matt Law revealed some knowledge on the club’s other transfer plans.

He said: “While a move for Zaha is not certain, Spurs will make a big bid for their number one summer target Ross Barkley, who will only have one year remaining on his Everton contract at the end of the season.

“England international Barkley is also being monitored by Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City, but Tottenham are currently at the front of the queue.”

If Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City are genuinely interested in the 23-year-old, there is a good chance those clubs will be able to pay Barkley far more handsomely than Spurs.

But Barkley’s future development could be dependent on the management of a coach like Pochettino, which might tempt him to towards Tottenham.
