Tottenham will attempt to sign Ross Barkley for a cut-price fee, according to The Mirror.

The Everton midfielder has emerged as one of Mauricio Pochettino’s priority targets this summer, but Spurs are apparently unwilling to meet the Toffees’ £25 million valuation of the player.

Barkley has just one year left on his Everton contract. The Merseysiders had reportedly valued him at £50 million, but it appears potential buyers balked at that price.

£25 million remains a huge fee for a player with just a year remaining on his current deal, so it looks like Tottenham will try to bring Everton down even further.

Last week, reports suggested Spurs would wait for Everton to lower their asking price as the transfer window progresses. The Mirror’s story suggests that’s still true.

Barkley rejected a new contract offer from Everton at the end of last season and the 23-year-old is expected to move on in the coming weeks.
