The president of Trabzonspor, Muharrem Usta, has revealed the Turkish club is in talks to sign Tottenham midfielder Moussa Sissoko on loan.

Sissoko joined Spurs from Newcastle for £30 million last summer but endured a difficult first season in north London.

ESPN believes Mauricio Pochettino is willing to let the Frenchman leave before the transfer deadline, and Usta claims Trabzonspor have opened talks with Tottenham.

In quotes published by ESPN, Usta told TRT Spor: “He is a very important player — Tottenham paid £35m (sic) for him.

“He didn’t live up to expectations last season but this can happen in football. We want to loan him and get his career back on track.

“Obviously Tottenham do not want to give up on a player they paid that kind of money for, but we will see.”

With no suitors willing to pay a fee close to the £30 million Spurs shelled out for Sissoko last August, a loan makes sense.
