Mauricio Pochettino has claimed Toby Alderweireld is fully committed to Tottenham.

Alderweireld has just two years left on his current contract and there have been suggestions that he will try to leave Spurs if a new improved deal isn’t offered.

But Pochettino, speaking to reporters ahead of Tottenham’s trip to Everton, insisted the Belgian defender is happy at the club.

“It is true, there is a lot of rumours in the last few days,” said the Spurs boss. “He was talking with me in my office this morning.

“He is happy, he wants to make fully clear his position that he is fully committed to the club. He is happy with his contract – two years plus one – but it is not easy.”

“I recognise that in the last few days there have been some rumours but he is so happy and so calm. His idea is to try and play here and he has no reason to move.”

Hopefully a new contract is sorted out sooner rather than later.

  1. Toby is much loved by Spurs supporters, and much respected by supporters of other clubs. It will be good to see him come to agreement to extend his contract with Spurs and to be paid more in the process.

  2. Just pay the man levy his worth, I do agree levy runs a steady ship money wise but do not be fooled into thinking if we do not raise our wage structure in the next couple of seasons after the new ground is built, we won’t win nothing because our best players will leave for more ?
