Spurs went ahead when Kane collected the ball on the right wing and swung in a cross that deceived everyone in the penalty area, landing in the back of the net.
Not long after that the visitors were 2-0 up. Ben Davies latched onto Delle Alli’s cross and tested Jordan Pickford before Christian Eriksen gobbled up the rebound.
Straight after half-time Kane made it three, converting a Davies cross from close range.
Tottenham were superb throughout and thoroughly deserved all three points. Here’s how Twitter reacted to the result and performance.
It’s not such winning that excites. It’s the way they did it, with Spurs-style football that will please the ghosts of Spurs past #EVETOT

Eriksen’s a genius, Kane took his goals well but nod to Davies and Dier, who both played v well today. Everton totally outclassed.

What a player. What a man. Look forward to many more goals @HKane – living our dream for us. ? #COYS pic.twitter.com/3qQ9ltCwx3

Everton curiously passive. Might be a case of too many new faces and early season, but the expected backlash never came

Great result! Was nervous bout playing Everton but completely deserved that result!

Bearing in mind Everton lost only twice last season at Goodison Park and significantly invested this is a tremendous Spurs win. #COYS#THFC pic.twitter.com/JUdPPN4hXp

Eriksen was superb today. When he drops deeper and just runs the game like that he really is a class act

Really impressed by @daosanchez26 on his first start for us. Took it in his stride and was brilliant at the back for us. Quality signing.

Very dominant display. Never really looked troubled & Poch’s selections and formation were spot on. The perfect away performance. #COYS

I reckon that was Davies’ best match for us — really impressive going forward and reliable at the back too. Getting better by the week.

Well that was bloody great. Season starts NOW. #COYS
