Paul Lopez has revealed he does not regret joining Tottenham on loan last season despite failing to make a single appearance for the first team.

The Espanyol goalkeeper signed for Spurs on a season-long loan in the summer of 2016, and there was an expectation he would join permanently at the end of the campaign.

But Tottenham opted against signing him, instead buying Paulo Gazzaniga from Southampton.

As a result, it could be argued that Lopez’s short stay at Spurs was a waste of time. But the 22-year-old doesn’t think of it like that.

He told Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo (via HITC): “I did not let anyone (at Espanyol) down (by joining Tottenham).

“When it comes to making decisions, you think about what will be best for me and my family.

“I would not have had many minutes if I stayed (at Espanyol) and it was a good experience. I do not regret it and I’m happy.”

There is still a chance Spurs will go back in for Lopez at a later date. But for now, the club seems content with the three current goalkeepers.
