Borussia Dortmund are interested in appointing former Tottenham head coach Andre Villas-Boas as their new manager, according to France Football.

Villas-Boas managed Spurs between July 2012 and December 2013, leading the Londoners to a fifth-placed finish in the 2012-13 Premier League campaign.

The former Porto and Chelsea boss was eventually sacked after overseeing a disastrous start to the following season.

He had been responsible for giving Gareth Bale a free role during his first season at the club, leading to the Welshman’s incredible run of form that earned him a move to Real Madrid.

After Bale’s sale in the summer 2013, the seven players signed to replace him failed to hit the ground running and AVB paid the price with his job.

Spells with Zenit St Petersburg and Shanghai SIPG followed before the Portuguese took part in the 2018 Dakar Rally.

But French outlet France Football now claims Villas-Boas could be set for a shock return to European football with Borussia Dortmund.

The Bundesliga club are thought to be considering appointing the 40-year-old as their new manager after recently learning he is available.

It would certainly be a surprise to see Villas-Boas at one of Europe’s top clubs given the downward trajectory of his career since leaving Tottenham.
