Tottenham younster Marcus Edwards has joined Dutch side Excelsior Rotterdam on loan until the end of the season, the club has announced.
Once dubbed “Mini-Messi” by Mauricio Pochettino, Edwards’ development has stalled over the last two years with rumours of a poor attitude holding the 19-year-old back.
Edwards spent the second half of last season on loan at Championship side Norwich City but failed to make a single first-team appearance for the Canaries.
Over the summer, reports emerged suggesting the teenager was keen to leave Spurs but a permanent move didn’t materialise.
As a result, Edwards is still on the books at Tottenham but will spend the season on loan in the Eredivisie.

The move could be just what he needs. If Edwards is able to play first-team football without all of the attention he would be receiving in England, perhaps he will resurrect his once hugely promising career.
Another Eredivisie club, PSV Eindhoven, have been drawn in the same Champions League group as Spurs alongside Bacelona and Inter Milan.
