Tottenham have sent scouts to watch Ajax youngster Frenkie de Jong, according to the Express.

De Jong has been linked with Barcelona in recent months after breaking into the Ajax first-team in the 2016/17 campaign.

The 21-year-old is a central midfielder and is highly-rated in the Netherlands following a string of impressive performances in the Eredivisie and the Europa League.

And according to the Express, Spurs are keeping tabs on De Jong as they look to recruit reinforcements in central midfield.

Tottenham failed to make a single signing over the summer and so could move for new players in the January transfer window.

The Express claims Ajax value De Jong at around £40 million, but the midfielder isn’t desperate to leave at this stage.

Spurs could come across De Jong in the Champions League if the Londoners and Ajax emerge from the group stages.

Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez and Christian Eriksen all used to play for Ajax – Tottenham fans will hoping those players can persuade De Jong to choose England over Spain.
