Dele Alli won’t play against Switzerland on Tuesday after withdrawing from the England squad with a minor muscle strain.

England have revealed Alli picked up the injury during Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Spain at Wembley in the UEFA Nations League.

The Tottenham star was named in the Three Lions’ starting line-up alongside Kieran Trippier and Harry Kane, while Eric Dier and Danny Rose were both used from the bench.

Alli has endured a mixed start to the season for Spurs, scoring the winning goal against Newcastle United on the opening weekend but failing to find the net since.

There is no indication whether the 22-year-old will be available for Tottenham’s clash with Liverpool at Wembley on Saturday.

We’re unlikely to get any update on the seriousness of Alli’s injury until Mauricio Pochettino’s pre-Liverpool press conference on Thursday.

Meanwhile during the international break, Christian Eriksen scored twice against Ben Davies’ Wales to hand Denmark a 2-0 victory in the Nations League.

Eriksen’s brace came after he and his senior teammates reached a compromise with the Danish FA regarding an ongoing dispute over commercial rights.
