Mauricio Pochettino has sympathised with Erik Lamela after the attacker missed Tottenham’s biggest chance against Manchester City, explaining that the ball bobbled before Lamela blazed over.
City ran out 1-0 winners at Wembley thanks to Riyad Mahrez’s early goal. Lamela was guilty of missing Spurs’ best opportunity to equalise, but Pochettino defended his countryman after the game.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Pochettino explained how the ball bounced just before Lamela’s shot. Some onlookers lamented the Wembley surface, which was torn up after Sunday’s NFL game at the national stadium.
