Christian Eriksen has urged Tottenham to pursue deals for Ajax duo Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong, according to reports in Spain.

De Ligt, a 19-year-old centre-back, and De Jong, a 21-year-old central midfielder, are among the most highly rated young players in Europe.

Both Dutch starlets were linked with Spurs and Barcelona over the summer, which is perhaps why Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo has picked on this story.

The report claims Eriksen, who used to play for Ajax, has recommended De Ligt and De Jong to Tottenham.

Spurs already have four former Ajax players in their squad in the form of Eriksen, Davinson Sanchez, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld.

Sanchez aside, all of those players arrived relatively cheaply; that won’t be the case with De Ligt and De Jong.

Ajax appear to have realised they can command huge fees for their young stars in today’s market, such is the quality of the current crop coming through at the Amsterdam club.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Tottenham pursue cheaper targets, but it will be interesting to see if the club listens to Eriksen’s reported suggestions.

  1. Tony you’re absolutely right but will they listen they certainly didn’t to Poch about being brave. whilst I love the New Stadium which they have both Delivered I’m afraid that alone won’t get us or Keep us where we should be

  2. Dear USA Spurs fan. The role that eriksen plays has nothing to do with the two others. One is a defender and the other is a midfielder in defence role. More like Dier. Christian is an attacker midfielder. If these two come we will be one of the contenders for the league and I can only see Man C being our rivals. Go on Levy make us happy for once after the other setback of the new date of the ground. COYS
