Tottenham are readying a £36 million bid for Sampdoria defender Joachim Andersen, according to reports in Italy.

Andersen has made 18 Serie A appearances at centre-back so far this season, scoring one goal.

The 22-year-old is among the most highly rated defenders in Italy and is said to be considering an exit from Sampdoria this month or in the summer.

Italian journalist Ciro Venerato believes Spurs are preparing a big offer for the Denmark international.

“Joachim Andersen? Yes there are some teams who have expressed interest in him as he has been doing well in the Serie A,” Venerato told Rai Sport (via the Express).

“I think the Spurs would like to get him during the summer transfer window.”

Tottenham are likely to be in need of a new centre-back in the near future because of Toby Alderweireld’s contract situation.

Last week, Spurs took up the option to extend Alderweireld’s contract by a year, thus activating a £25 million release clause that can be triggered this summer.

With there being little hope of Alderweireld signing a new long-term deal with the club, Tottenham are expected to lose the Belgian at the end of the season.

If Anderson is on Spurs’ shortlist, he is likely to be one of a number of potential targets who we will hear plenty about in the media over the coming months.
