The possibility of Real Madrid attempting to swap Gareth Bale with Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Christian Eriksen has been risen again, this time by Spanish journalist Guillem Balague.

For those unaware, Balague is the author of Mauricio Pochettino’s biography. He was also one of the first journalist to break the news of Zinedine Zidane’s return to Real Madrid earlier this week.

In his BBC Sport column on Monday, Balague claimed Madrid could offer Bale to Spurs this summer in part exchange for Christian Eriksen.

However, he believes Tottenham cannot afford Bale’s wages and the Welshman is currently unwilling to lower his demands.

Bale has enjoyed plenty of success since leaving Spurs for the Bernabeu in the summer of 2013 but his relationship with the fans and his teammates is said to be frosty after a number of subpar displays this season.

The Welshman has been tipped to leave Madrid this summer but it doesn’t look like there will be a dream reunion with Tottenham.

Meanwhile, Christian Eriksen has been linked with Madrid again following Zidane’s arrival. It is believed the Frenchman will be given huge transfer funds this summer and Eriksen is said to be on his shortlist.

Eriksen’s agent, Martin Schoots, commented on his client’s future this week – read more here.

  1. Any spurs fan who believes that bale is coming back or that eriksen will sign a new contract is kidding themselves. Neither will happen as Levy would not pay for bale and he will want top pound for eriksen but eriksen has Levy and he knows it.

  2. Unfortunately Bale is past his sell by date and bringing him back to Spurs would be like getting back with your ex.
£70 million for an injury prone player who will be worth very little in 3 years time, not the Tottenham way.
