Jan Vertonghen has said everybody at Tottenham Hotspur is “counting on” Son Heung-min to provide the goals during Harry Kane’s absence.

Kane is set for another spell on the sidelines after limping off with an ankle injury during Spurs’ 1-0 victory over Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

The Telegraph claims Kane hopes to be out for no longer than six weeks, which could see him return in time for the Champions League final if Tottenham make it and the UEFA Nations League finals with England.

In the meantime, Spurs will be looking to Son – who scored the winner against City – to provide the lion’s share of the goals while Kane is sidelined.

And Vertonghen suggested he and his teammates also support that line of thinking.

“Everyone is counting on Sonny,” Vertonghen said (via the Telegraph).

“We’ll have Harry coming back from injury hopefully soon. Everyone needs to step up like we did before. We won I think all of our Premier League games without Harry and hopefully we can do it again.”

Tottenham face Huddersfield Town in the Premier League on Saturday and are likely to be without both Kane and Dele Alli, who suffered a hand injury against City.

As a result, Son and Lucas Moura are likely to start in attack, while Fernando Llorente is also an option.
