Tottenham Hotspur are closing in on the signing of Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, according to Sky Sports in Italy.

Ndombele, 22, is one of the most sought-after midfielders in Europe following an impressive season for Lyon.

The defensive midfielder provided seven assists in 34 Ligue 1 appearances in 2018/19, which is impressive for a player who sits in front of the back four.

Sky in Italy claims Spurs are now close to completing a deal for Ndombele despite interest form Manchester City, Manchester United and Juventus.

However, the Guardian believes that while Tottenham have opened talks with Lyon, the two clubs are far apart in their valuation of the Frenchman.

Spurs apparently value him at around €50 million but Lyon want closer to €75 million for a player who is also being tracked by Real Madrid.

Regardless, it looks like Tottenham are set to smash their transfer record if a deal for Ndombele comes to fruition.

Mauricio Pochettino is thought to be eager to strengthen in central midfield, providing competition for Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko while potentially moving Eric Dier and Victor Wanyama on.
