Tottenham Hotspur are at the front of the queue to sign Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos, according to reports in Spain.

Last month, we relayed reports suggesting Spurs could ask Real Madrid for Ceballos as part of a deal for Christian Eriksen.

Spanish outlet AS then reported Tottenham were leading the race to sign Ceballos regardless of whether he would be part of the Eriksen deal.

And now, the same newspaper (via Sport Witness) claims Spurs remain the ‘main candidate’ to take Ceballos away from the Bernabeu this summer.

The 22-year-old has just returned from the Under-21 European Championships where he was one of the players of the tournament as Spain won the trophy.

Watching him at the Euros, it’s clear to see why he is reportedly coveted by the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal and AC Milan.

Spurs are said to be closing in on the signing of Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, but Mauricio Pochettino may want to strengthen further in the middle of the park.

It is believed Ceballos would be keen to work with Pochettino at Tottenham, so this one might have legs.
