Mauricio Pochettino has been dealt a major blow with both Dele Alli and Juan Foyth expected to miss the start of the Premier League season with a hamstring and ankle problems respectively.
Alli started Spurs’ penalty shoot-out victory over Bayern Munich in the Audi Cup in midweek and has generally looked sharp since returning from his break, but the muscle problem ruled him out of Tottenham’s last pre-season outing against Inter Milan this afternoon and will definitely miss Spurs’ game against Aston Villa on Saturday and then possibly further games to come against Manchester City and Newcastle United.
The England man suffered a similar problem during the 2018 World Cup and then missed a total of nine matches during the early parts of last season before injuring his thigh against Fulham in January, ruling him out for a further 12 matches.
As for Foyth, he injured his ankle in the Audi Cup final against Munich on Wednesday and Mauricio Pochettino admitted he will miss ‘many weeks.’
