Tottenham striker Troy Parrott has been omitted from the Republic of Ireland squad for their upcoming games against Switzerland and Bulgaria.

Boss Mick McCarthy had named the 17-year-old in his 40-man provisional squad, but has released Parrott to play for Under-21s and won’t be given the opportunity to make his senior debut for his country unless injuries and withdrawals occur.

The teenager has enjoyed a whirlwind summer in 2019, making his noncompetitive bow for Spurs during their pre-season tour of Far East, assisting Erik Lamela’s first-half goal against Juventus before featuring against both Manchester United and Real Madrid later on.

He hasn’t been included in any of Mauricio Pochettino’s Premier League squads this term, but has been impressive for Tottenham’s Under-23s and scored his first goals at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a victory against Manchester City last week.

Parrott has never been capped at Under-21 level and will be hoping to make his first appearance when Ireland face Armenia and Sweden in the 2021 European Championship qualifiers early next month.
