Harry Winks has praised the impact of summer signing Giovani Lo Celso – and said the Argentine will become an important player for Tottenham.

Lo Celso has endured a difficult time in London since making the move on a season-long from Real Betis, but has major strides in recent weeks.

The 23-year-old, who is currently away on international duty with Argentina, suffered a hip problem in early September which forced him to miss almost two months of action, but after returning to training during mid-October, was handed his full Spurs debut in the victory against Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League last Wednesday – and marked the occasion by netting his first goal for the club.

Lo Celso was then rewarded for his performance in the Serbian capital with his full Premier League debut against Sheffield United, although he wasn’t as influential against the Blades.

However, Winks has been impressed with what he’s seen.

“Gio has come in and been excellent. He’s shown his quality, it’s unfortunate he got an injury and wasn’t able to play sooner,” Winks told the Evening Standard.

“Same with Ryan [Sessegnon]. Gio’s very technical.

“He can receive the ball in between the lines. He’s got an eye for a goal and an assist as well, and he’ll be a key player for us going forward.”
