Tanganga at left-back? Making sense of the Spurs line-up v Watford

The Tottenham line-up for Saturday’s trip to Watford has been confirmed, and there are a couple of major talking points.

Japhet Tanganga is handed his third successive start after impressing against Liverpool and Middlesbrough. Before the line-up was announced, the London Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick suggested Tanganga could start at left-back.

The 20-year-old finished the Liverpool game on the left of a back four as Jose Mourinho looked for ways to find an equaliser while staying solid at the back against the Premier League leaders.

However, there is a chance Jan Vertonghen will actually be the left-back, with Tanganga partnering Toby Alderweireld in the middle. Serge Aurier will provide more attacking intent down the right. It will be interesting to see how the defence lines up when the game begins.

Other than that, the line-up is close to our predicted XI. We thought Eric Dier might start in the holding role, but Harry Winks will sit deep behind five more attacking players.

Christian Eriksen has been dropped to the bench, while Giovani Lo Celso and Erik Lamela have been rewarded with starts after scoring against Middlesbrough. They will aim to help Dele Alli, Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min get among the goals.

Check out the line-up below and let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
