Spurs will move to within one point of Chelsea if they win their away match at Aston Villa on Sunday. Jose Mourinho’s side are now just four points behind their London rivals and with Chelsea not in action until next Monday night when they host Manchester United, Tottenham have the chance to put some real pressure on, as the battle for a top four place intensifies.

There are now five teams within six points of Chelsea, who have only won four of their last 13 Premier League games (D3 L6). The odds for Spurs and a couple of other contenders are tempting, with a bet365 bonus code 2020 entitling you to a great offer. Though Chelsea remain favourites to claim fourth, Tottenham could provide value. Fifth placed Sheffield United are only two points behind Chelsea and have some kind fixtures in the coming weeks, while Everton have come from nowhere to close the gap to five points. Chelsea are facing multiple threats at a time when their form resembles a side at the bottom end of the table.

The inconsistency of Spurs this season is highlighted by the fact that they have not won three Premier League games in a row all season. After their league wins against Norwich and Manchester City ,Tottenham now stand at the precipice of this achievement. The Aston Villa game will be followed by a crunch match against Chelsea away at Stamford Bridge, so it really is vital for Spurs to win this weekend.

Anyone that saw the wins over Norwich and Manchester City will know that performances will have to dramatically improve if there’s any realistic chance of the winning run continuing in the long-term. Both games saw Tottenham ride their luck and score important goals late on in the second-half, while the FA Cup replay win against Southampton was a similar story, as the side fought back from being 2-1 down to win 3-2.

Yet there are definite signs of improvement under Mourinho. Japhet Tanganga has been a great success since being introduced to the team and had made for a meaner defence. The midfield perhaps lacks a true holding player, but Giovani Lo Celso has started to show his worth and Tanguy Ndombele is clearly extremely talented, even if his lack of fitness is frustrating. In attack, though Harry Kane is badly missed, Heung-Min Son is once again stepping up and scoring goals.

So can Spurs do it and once again qualify for the Champions League? Let us know in the comments section below.

  1. Leicester will slip up sooner than later, so it is highly possible that Spurs could catch up, but I still think that a Cup run is more feasible now that Man City hoodoo has been conquered.
