Tottenham have begun talks with Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan, according to reports in France.

Maignan has been Lille’s first-choice goalkeeper for the last three seasons, conceding 27 goals and keeping 12 clean sheets in 28 league matches this term in the French top-flight.

Eurosport France journalist Manu Lonjon claims Spurs have entered discussions with Maignan just in case Hugo Lloris leaves north London this summer. Lonjon believes Jose Mourinho is anticipating a ‘hectic summer’, which suggests a number of players could come and go.

Lloris has struggled for consistency over the last couple of years, though he remains club captain and is very much Mourinho’s preference between the sticks ahead of Paulo Gazzaniga and Michel Vorm.

That said, Maignan’s stats do suggest he would be a decent replacement. He has conceded an average of less than a goal a game in Ligue 1 this season.

The 24-year-old has represented France at every youth age group but it is yet to play for Les Bleus at senior level, where Lloris wears the armband.
