Tottenham appear to be leading the race to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers star Ruben Neves this summer, according to reports in France.

Neves has been one of Wolves’ standout performers since joining the club from Porto. The midfielder fired Nuno Espirito Santo’s side to the Premier League two years ago, and Wolves have been a worthy addition to the top-flight – they are currently above Spurs in the table.

French outlet Foot Mercato claims Neves has a number of suitors and Tottenham are said to be chief among them. The report suggests Jose Mourinho is a big fan of the 23-year-old, whose ‘preferred track’ is understood to be Spurs as things stand.

Of course, there is a chance Wolves will be playing European football next season while Spurs could miss out altogether, or the other way round. With that in mind, Neves’ future may depend on how the Premier League run-in turns out.

Mourinho’s men are currently two points behind sixth-placed Wolves. Both sides will be dreaming of Champions League qualification, but Europe’s elite competition might be just out of reach.
