Wolves are interested in signing Tottenham right-back Serge Aurier as a replacement for Matt Doherty, according to The Sun’s Alan Nixon.

Doherty became Spurs’ third summer signing last month on a reported £15m fee (according to Sky Sports), leaving Aurier’s future in north London in serious doubt.

The Ivory Coast international still has two years left on his Tottenham deal and was the club’s first-choice right-back last term – making 42 appearances in all competitions – but Jose Mourinho has made his intentions to upgrade on the 27-year-old clear after a number of defensive errors from Aurier last season.

He has been strongly linked with AC Milan, although Sky Sports believe that those talks have stalled after the two clubs failed to agree a fee, whilst the defender has also attracted interest from Bayer Leverkusen.

And now Wolves, who’re in desperate need of a replacement for Doherty, have joined the race – with The Sun suggesting that a swap deal is a possibility, although who that swap deal could involve hasn’t been stated.

  1. After Doherty’s performance against Finland today Tottenham may be well advised to hold on to Aurier. As for Wolves ‘desperate’ need for a replacement I think you’ll find a certain Adams Traore can and has played right wing back.
