Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris has turned down an early attempt from the club to tie him down to a new contract, according to Football Insider.

Lloris has 18 months remaining on his current deal and has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain (via the Sun), where he would re-unite with former Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Football Insider claims Lloris has rebuffed Tottenham’s initial efforts to sit down and discuss terms on a new contract amid concerns over his long-term future, although further talks are planned.

Spurs apparently don’t want Lloris to enter the final 12 months of his deal, so there is a good chance the Londoners will expedite discussions in the coming months in a bid to avoid losing their first-choice goalkeeper in the summer.

Lloris turned 34 in December and, despite playing well so far this season, has been on the wane for the last couple of years – Tottenham would be wise to begin their search for a new goalkeeper now, even if Lloris could stay for a while yet.

Hopefully a new contract can be agreed soon to ease the pressure on Spurs’ hunt for his successor.
