Ryan Mason was unable to confirm whether Harry Kane would be fit for Sunday’s Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.

Kane sustained a late ankle problem having been stamped on by Richarlison at Everton on Friday, and didn’t train on neither Monday or Tuesday before missing Wednesday’s victory over Southampton.

Second-half goals from Gareth Bale and Heung Min Son earned Spurs a much-needed three points against the Saints.

Mason was quizzed on Kane’s return prior to the game and revealed that the striker might be back on the training pitch by Friday, but then said post-match that the England captain is continuing to take it day by day, keeping his cards close to his chest ahead of the final.

He said: “It’s just a case of taking it each day at a time. Harry is giving everything to be back out on the pitch, he couldn’t be today but we’ll see by the end of the week where we’re at.”
