Tottenham have joined the race to sign Lyon attacker Houssem Aouar, according to the Mirror.

Arsenal were strongly linked with the 22-year-old last summer, but he ended up staying in France.

But now the Mirror believe that Aouar, who scored eight times and added four assists in 33 appearances in all competitions for Lyon last season, is on Fabio Paratici’s wish-list this summer.

With both Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso failing to live up to exceptions, Spurs will need some extra quality in those central attacking areas – which is what Aouar offers.

The £37.8m-rated star averages a goal or assist every three matches in Ligue 1 – scoring 23 times and chipping in with 19 assists in 127 matches for Lyon, whilst he’s also proved himself in the Champions League having set up six goals in 2019-2020, including two in the surprise quarter-final victory over Manchester City.

The Mirror also believe that whilst Aouar still has two years left on his contract, Lyon could be willing to sell the attacker to help with financial problems caused by the pandemic.
