Tottenham have confirmed the departure of Toby Alderweireld, who’s joined Qatari outfit Al-Duhail SC.

The centre-back joined from Atletico Madrid in 2015, and would strike up an outstanding partnership with fellow Belgian Jan Vertonghen.

Alderweireld was a key part of the team that reached the Champions League final and managed four consecutive top four finishes from 2016 and 2019.

His final campaign at the club was a disappointing one, being in and out the team, but the 32-year-old played every minute of the final seven Premier League games, with his 236th and final appearance for the club coming at Leicester on the final day of last season.

Alderweireld has been a magnificent servant for the club, and one of the best centre-backs since Ledley King.

But with Nuno Espirito Santo looking to rebuild his defensive department, following two wretched seasons, and the Belgian turning 33 in March, it feels like the right time for Alderweireld to move on.
