Tottenham are preparing a move for Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse, according to The Telegraph.
Ward-Prowse, who scored eight goals and added seven assists in an ever-present Premier League campaign for the Saints last season, has been wanted by Aston Villa all summer, although the two parties haven’t yet been able to agree a fee after seeing a £25m bid rejected.
And the Telegraph believe that Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have joined the race for the 26-year-old, who’s made almost 300 appearances in the Premier League for Southampton, but narrowly missed out on Gareth Southgate’s England squad.
Santo has already added three players to his squad, and whilst bringing in another centre-back and a striker remain top of his priority list, the potential departures of Harry Winks and Moussa Sissoko mean another midfielder could be needed.
The report believes that the set-piece specialist was wanted by Mauricio Pochettino when he was Spurs manager having made him a regular during their time together with Saints.
