Tottenham have confirmed the permanent departure of young striker Dilan Markanday.

Despite being one of the hottest prospects in the academy, Spurs have allowed the 20-year-old, who had just six months left on his contract, to join Championship side Blackburn on a permanent basis. Markanday has signed a three-and-a-half year deal at Ewood Park.

Markanday made his first-team debut for Tottenham in a Europa Conference League game against Vitesse in October, and has scored 12 goals in 14 Premier League 2 appearances, but hasn’t been given a chance by Antonio Conte.

Therefore, several Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to express their anger towards his sale.

  1. Well summed up by these Spurs fans.
Here the management has a lot to answer for. Can’t blame the player for leaving and the club had no option as would have lost him for nothing next summer.
The problem he was never given a chance, just like Dennis Cirkin(Mourinho talked him up soon after arriving as coach but never gave him a chance).
Look at Chelsea and Woolwich not scared to give the youngsters a chance with outstanding results.
Can also criticise Conte for never giving the youngsters a chance, even 10/15 minutes here and there as substitutes.
    We are a laughing stock.

  2. We use to hold on to players of promised until they fizzled out the academy all under the stewardship of Poch. While he did bring through the like of Kane who was already gone out on loan,Mason, Winks and Skipp . We are not seeing the talent come through to warrant most of the under 23’s getting stagnated at the club. The likes of Jack Clarke whom we bought should be on the first out but like all the rest of our first team either they are over priced or no one real want them. I see this kid play and he has not know my sock off. Am not sure we will have any reprocussion on his development away. But keep being angry at every decision. I have not seem one players let in 7 years we that we can look back and say, we let a good one go. So please with all the outrage and name a player out there now with that tag of regret to the club.
