Aside from the sale of Jermain Defoe, it’s been another quiet January for Spurs on the transfer front and while the press still suggest that Erik Lamela could be on his way this month, the club have now moved to deny such claims.

“We know what a talented player Erik is and we also understand how players need time to settle,” said head coach Tim Sherwood.

“He’s needing that time to acclimatise to a new country. He doesn’t speak English and with the tempo of the games, especially over the Christmas period when they come thick and fast, he hasn’t been 100 per cent fit.”

“He won’t be leaving on loan in this transfer window.”

Sherwood also suggested that our record signing could be given a chance to play up front and therefore replace the outgoing Defoe. It’s a role that may also be offered to another summer arrival, Nacer Chadli.

Both men have played as a second striker for their former clubs and a successful trial means Spurs are even more unlikely to dip into the transfer market this month.

  1. Defoe will replace moer creative and versetile player replace 1.lamela to mata & griezmman or victor fischer 2.defoe to pato or hernandez 3. capoue & holtby to strootma, banega or gaurin

  2. Yes I have heard alot tottenham supporters say this since the signing Lamela in the summer that he should play in a number 10 role in the team pushed further forward just behind a main striker rather then on the left or right wing , I have a feeling Tim sherwood might be thinking this as well.

Not sure regading Chadli more or less left wing cover for Eriksen or Townsand , I can’t personally seem him in a number 10 role either way I hope both players become successful under TS .

    Up The Spurs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Well we have lost a proven prem score and replaced him with a 28 year old expensive misfiring getting wore Soldado. Our club should be renamed Tottenham grand old Duke of Yorkers we march up to the top of the hill and march back down again. Every time we have a winning formula along comes a bigger club and breaks it up all because 36 thousand crowd means we are vulnerable. We are no where near building our stadium its all gone quite on that front. The rumors are already starting Holtby out Capoue out. We missed a great chance of getting what i believed would have got us top 4 Traore Anzi ex player now at Monaco and heading for West Ham on loan at 6ft8 we had a new better Crouch inch taller faster and more skillful big Same will enjoy on loan.

  4. Love to hear Lamela being talked about as the 2nd striker. Let’s face it: He’s not a good midfielder as he’s weak on tackles and looks to beat guys one-on-one. He could not possibly be worse than Soldado who seems to have an awful work-rate which has led to fewer chances to score.

  5. Lamela was always going to take time. When he has played he’s shown some glimpses of his undoubted ability. Playing him as a second striker solves lots of problems. It means we can get Eriksen, Lennon and Lamela all into the first 11 while keeping a strong centre midfield.

It also seems like a better long term option than Adebayor who I don’t think we can rely on.

  6. I personally would like to see a 3 pronged attack with lamela left side soldado in middle and erikson on the right we need goals and alot of them or I can see us missing out on champions league again. Coys

  7. akshayaalase I hate your stinking guts!!

On a more positive note, Lamela off Soldado/Adebayor, Eriksen on the left, Lennon on the right, don’t know how long I’ve been asking for this.. We should wait til after the Man City match first tho

  8. Ade’s power in the air gives us options that the other combo’s don’t (flick on for Ericksons goal). what I like about spurs under TS is that we mix it up. We can go long or short. This isn’t an option with strikers like Saldado/defoe.
Should Sell Holtby, siggy and Livermore add defoe money and buy Benteke now or in the summer. Maybe better to buy him now in case he has a good W/Cup.
