Farhad Moshiri, majority shareholder of Everton, has claimed the Toffees didn’t want to sign Moussa Sissoko after all, according to The Mirror.

The dubious claim comes amid reports Tottenham stole the player from Everton’s grasp at the last minute. There were suggestions the Merseysiders had landed a private jet to fly Sissoko in for a medical, but the player switched off his phone and didn’t show up.

As a result, Moshiri has moved quickly to avoid claims Everton were embarrassed by both Spurs and Sissoko, claiming the club decided against buying Sissoko as his acquisition would “jeopardise” midfielder James McCarthy’s place in the side.

His claim seems doubtful as Everton appeared to be willing to let McCarthy, who was linked with Tottenham last summer, leave the club on loan. Any potential deal that would have seen McCarthy depart was called off when Spurs swooped for Sissoko.

At the end of it all, Tottenham got their man and Everton were left licking their wounds. Only time will tell if the Toffees will rue missing out on the French midfielder.

  1. Everton definitely dodged a bullet with this ‘I AM’ merchant expect one good game in 10 and a lot of sulking. Has he got Adebayor’s old locker?

  2. Mr Moshiri should know the reason he opted out of persisting with the pursuit of Sissoko! It sure wasn’t lack of money, lol.

  3. LOL, Any thoughts that this “claim” is just a complete fabrication by Sky Sports….just to milk this dumb story even more?

“Yes, we made attempts to sign a player, but then decide not to in order to protect a current squad player.” If Moshiri were really this illogical, he wouldn’t be the billionaire with so much success in the business world!

  4. I am a lover of football, enjoy watching most teams with the one exception (Sunderland). This is in no way a bitter statement at all, we as Newcastle fans are absolutely ‘over the moon’ with what we have for Sissoko. I wish the man well, genuinely and maybe Poch is the manager to get the best out of him.

He has been nothing more than a disgrace, he has his wish with CL and yes we are a long way off the PL never mind CL. But our time will hopefully return, you never know.

He will start well….Then he will hide, he has no heart and thinks he is better than he is. Just watch and see.

All the very best for the season.

    • Cheers Terry for your thoughts. Hopefully poch can get him going long term. Tottenham, Everton and Newcastle massive clubs who have all under achieved in the last few decades. Lets hope we can all push on to stop the monopoly that exists. But for now im enjoying the yid roller-coaster. COYS.

Thank you for that, sometimes if you post on other fans sites you just get abuse. Always enjoy the banter and ever since a certain Waddle, Gazza and Ginola left us for Spurs i could not help watching you lot whenever on TV.

Genuinely thought you had the title last year, a lad i work with is a Spurs fan and my life was hell, obviously Spurs doing great and Newcastle – well not great.

Thanks for the reply, again all the very best for the season.
