Tottenham Hotspur are locked in a three-way battle with Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund to sign Ajax star Donny van de Beek this summer, according to reports in Spain.

Van de Beek was one of the standout players in Ajax’s remarkable journey to the Champions League semi-finals, which ended at the hands of Spurs last week.

The 22-year-old scored a well-taken goal in the first leg at Tottenham’s new stadium, keeping his composure when put through and slotting past Hugo Lloris.

Spurs have been linked with him in the past, but speculation is now beginning to intensify as the summer approaches.

Spanish outlet Sport claims Barcelona want to make Van de Beek one of three Ajax players they buy before next season alongside Frenkie de Jong, who they have already signed, and Matthijs de Ligt.

All three of those players have been mooted as possible Tottenham targets, but De Ligt and De Jong are now beyond the Londoners’ reach.

However, Sport believes Spurs are still in for Van de Beek, as are Borussia Dortmund.

It will be interesting to see whether Tottenham’s Champions League progression gives them extra pulling power when they are competing for signings this summer.
